Simon Gerrans took over the yellow jersey after today’s team time trial in Nice. His 9-man Orica Greenedge team posted the fastest time over the 15.5-mile course, riding at an average of 38-miles-per-hour.
“It was a perfect team effort, and I got the yellow jersey to top it off,” Gerrans said. “When you work like that as a team you can do some amazing things. To get the yellow jersey, so few guys have had that honor. I’m glad to take it for the team today. We have every opportunity to keep it for the next few days so we’ll do our best.”
The Australians not only posted the fastest time in today’s event, but according to race announcers, this was the fastest TTT ever in the history of the Tour de France.
