Frenchman wins first mountain stage and regains overall race lead
Five days ago, Sylvain Chavanel won a stage in the Tour de France that earned him the yellow jersey. Today, he did it again. This time it was in the sweltering heat of the Alps– 103 miles from Tournus to Station des Rousses. The Quick Step rider attacked the peloton on the second to last climb and passed other riders dangling ahead of the main field. Chavanel is back in the malloit jaune, as he was after winning Stage 2. Chapeau, Chavanel!
At the end of the Tour’s first week, the top 20 riders have a shot at the overall victory.
