Today’s Stage One of the Tour de France is in Monaco. It’s an event called the individual time trial where each of the 180 riders starts one minute after another to race over a nine-and-a-half mile route. The first half of the time trial is uphill with a lot of twists and turns on a fast downhill, which means a potentially dangerous course. It’s not a particularly exciting day for non-cycling fans, but today’s stage will show us geeks who is in form and who is not. I’ll be watching closely to see if Lance Armstrong finishes better than his teammate Alberto Contador. For the team Astana, today will determine which of those guys is the team leader. If your tour lover is glued to the race and not at your Fourth of July BBQ, you may need to add more hot sauce to the ribs!
