Italian Riccardo Ricco won today’s difficult mountain stage that ended in the Pyrenees. He attacked at the top of the last climb, stayed away on the descent and soloed to the finish. It was Ricco’s second stage win in this year’s Tour. Remember his name because you’ll hear it again.
Bad news for Tour favorite Cadel Evans. The Aussie crashed early on and suffered road rash on his back, elbow and hip. Amazingly, he got back on the bike and his Silence Lotto team returned him to the peloton. Unfortunately tomorrow, he’ll be stiff and sore when the race moves toward one of the toughest climbs in the Tour– Hautacam.
My Tour pick, Kim Kirchen, is in the overall leader’s yellow jersey for a fourth day. He should sacrifice the jersey to another rider soon. If not, Team Columbia may die trying to defend it. No one wears the yellow jersey for 21 days. He can get it back when it counts– in Paris!
